Siesta Key, Sarasota was the site of another phenomenal gathering of sand sculptors from around the globe. As the 25th Annual Siesta Key Crystal Classic Sandsculpting Competition took place, it was obvious that the artists were serious and they were here to compete! Attendance this year was as high as ever, in consideration of the current economic situation. The event was open to the general public, however, if you wanted to get up-close and personal, there was a fee of $5/per person/ per day.
Beach-goers were treated to the artisitic renditions in quartz-white sand as well as classes and mini-clinics on the sculptor’s techniques.
The Veteran’s Sculpture was timely and sincere. Giving honor the the military, regardless of branch affiliation.
One of the key benefits of this event is the use of the proceeds to support the programs at the Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium geared towards sea turtle research, rehabilitation and their conversation efforts.
Looking at the success of this year’s event, there’s no doubt that next year will be bigger and (believe it or not) possibly better! As additional festivities and activities are added to the mix, this competition is just another reason that Sarasota has become the global attraction that it is today!
