Executive Summary: Bob Gagnon, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, and Dr. Robin Thompson, Executive Director of Teaching and Learning, will discuss a proactive community partnership between our school district, city, county, and local businesses. This will be a collaborative effort designed to address and educate the community on the importance of reducing the kindergarten readiness gap and closing the achievement gap.
It will include several phases (community awareness; program alignment with readiness expectations; and addressing the critical acceleration period) that will be detailed and accompanied by examples on a Moodle site created to facilitate communication and accessibility to information and resources.
The details of the plan will include a proposal to convert Rogers Garden Elementary School to a Pre-K through grade 2 community-based school offering wrap-around services and to serve as a model professional learning site for our teachers to demonstrate we can be proactive in our efforts to reduce the readiness gap and close the achievement gap with early, targeted intervention.
