Public Notice – Treework in Fredd Glossie Atkins Park

Sarasota, FL: A laurel oak tree in Fredd “Glossie” Atkins Park in North Sarasota will be removed this week due to decay. Weather permitting, the tree is expected to come down Wednesday, June 13. The park will remain open during the work. A sky climber oak, similar to the tree in the new roundabout at Ringling Boulevard and Pineapple Avenue, will be planted.

City staff has been monitoring the health of the laurel oak since it began to fail recently with branches breaking. A tree risk assessment was conducted by a certified master arborist who considers the tree to be a high risk and a public hazard.
